Poetry as Music without the Melody:

What Makes a Poem a Poem if it doesn't Rhyme

Perie Longo, PhD, LMFT, PTR

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Poetry reading and writing can be a dynamic force in helping access and express emotion for clients who have never written poetry. This experiential workshop will offer poems to demonstrate how the natural rhythm of language rather than rhyme is what “makes” a poem, focused on repetition of sounds, words and phrases, as well as image, simile and metaphor to free our songs within. Come prepared to write.

The workshop will explore and demonstrate techniques that use improvisation and music to ensure that goals and objectives can be achieved as quickly and effectively as possible.
